Surat State School provides quality education to students from Prep to Year 10.
It has a student population of approximately 100 students with multi-age classes existing throughout the school. The student population is drawn from both town residents and nearby properties.
The teaching and learning program is designed to provide quality education which meets the needs, interests and abilities of students by emphasising the development of appropriate and relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes.

Surat State School has provided a positive educational experience to the students of Surat since 1874, with the Secondary Department available for learning to Year 10 from 1963, and Preschool classes in the Early Learning Building from 1976. Surat historically has strong links to the Cobb and Co enterprise as the starting point for the very last scheduled Cobb and Co service to operate in Australia on 14 August 1924.
Surat State School currently provides all students with a great opportunity to engage in a range of experiences which promote lifelong learning for all.
